2026 Annual Equine Artwork Auction

An Auction of Unique Art and Crafts from Well-Established and Emerging Artists

This auction highlights the contributions of artists specializing in diverse media – jewelry, giclee prints, fiber arts, watercolor, leatherwork, quilting, photography, and more! Many pieces are equine-related, but not all – the unifying theme is that all support the efforts of equine rescues. We are so grateful for the generosity of these wonderful artists who are willing to share their artistic gifts to benefit equines in need.

The auction will run from Saturday, May 2nd at 10 AM through Saturday, May 9th at 10 PM CST. We will once again offer the highly coveted “Ted’s Mom’s Fudge,” as some consider this an art form. There is something to appeal to everyone, and all proceeds support equines in need!

A Collection of Crafts, Artwork, Gently-Used and New Tack, Home Décor, and More to Support the Efforts of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society!

WHEN: March 21st - March 28th, 2026

Bluebonnet is turning 21 this year – this month, in fact! That’s 21 years of helping horses, meeting new people, helping horse owners, and making horsey dreams come true. They’ve taken in 1,581 horses and placed over 1,300 equines with adopters.

The mission of BEHS is to improve the lives of equines by educating and helping owners, assisting law enforcement agencies, rehabilitating abused and neglected equines, and placing them into safe, permanent homes. Their primary acquisition focus is helping law enforcement. This includes receiving neglect complaints, investigating neglect complaints, working with law enforcement agencies to educate owners about proper horse care, and assisting law enforcement agencies in removing neglected, abused, abandoned, and estray horses when necessary.

Spring into the fun of our online auctions and help several wonderful equine rescue groups as well! The auction will run from Saturday, February 21st at 10 AM through Saturday, February 28th at 10 PM CST. There will be over 50 items, ranging from original artwork to racing and equine memorabilia, vintage collectibles, and jewelry. We will once again offer the Eclectic Equine Mystery Box for adults as well as the highly coveted “Ted’s Mom’s Fudge.” There are many bargains to be had, there’s something for everyone, and all proceeds support equines in need!

Interested bidders can place bids, and at the close of the auction, the auction will be locked, and the highest bidder will be notified. We will send you a PayPal invoice shortly after the auction ends. Payment should be submitted via PayPal to Special Horses at paypal@specialhorses.org; checks via snail mail are also accepted: address is Special Horses Inc., 4376 Maryland Avenue A7, St. Louis MO 63108. Upon receipt of the funds, the item will be shipped to the winner. Proceeds will be distributed between the participating rescue organizations.

Shipping costs to the 48 contiguous states have been included in the bidding price unless otherwise noted.

An Auction to Raise Funds for the Racing Warriors in Sanctuary with The Exceller Fund

WHEN: October 11th - October 18th, 2025

Upon learning of Exceller’s grim fate, a handful of racing fans came together to help former Thoroughbred racehorses and The Exceller Fund was born. The network of people and organizations determined to help these horses has grown exponentially over the years as awareness has spread. Today, The Exceller Fund continues to provide care and sanctuary for these amazing, retired equine athletes with a focus on “Racing Warriors”, Thoroughbreds that have spent years on the track and may not be suitable as adoption candidates due to wear and tear from extraordinarily long racing careers.

The Exceller Fund has always operated by using satellite and foster facilities around the country to care for our horses. We are looking to expand our operations and programing in upcoming years but we can only do that with the help of our dedicated supporters.

We will remember Exceller not for his death, but for his legacy as a catalyst for what we now call “aftercare”, an integral part of the racing industry.

Join us as we celebrate EXCELLER and all the lives he has saved.

A Fundraiser to Support The Exceller Fund's Rescue of Thoroughbred "Racing Warriors"

The Exceller Fund acquires Thoroughbred horses that might otherwise be at risk for neglect or slaughter and works to provide a future beyond the finish line once they have completed their racing careers. In addition to transitioning potential adoptable horses into second careers, sanctuary is provided for those horses in need of retirement. The Exceller Fund also works to facilitate the placement of Thoroughbreds with other equine organizations nationwide in order to save as many Thoroughbreds as possible.

The Exceller Fund's mission of "Providing a Future Beyond the Finish Line" goes well beyond the immediate rescue of a horse. For them, saving a life is a LIFETIME commitment. With good care, horses can live into their late twenties, or longer. The Exceller Fund continues to care for these extraordinary horses long after the initial emotional response has diminished.

The Exceller Fund is accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and has received funding from Thoroughbred Charities of America.

HOW THE FUNDRAISER WORKS

It's that time of year when the TEF Racing Warriors start to think about filling up the hay sheds (well, it's ALWAYS that time of year!). Four Racing Warriors - Handsome Jolly Jim, Fax A Freddy, Crypto Gulch, and Salt on the Rim have asked Special Horses to help them get the word out to Santa. For as little as $5, you can help stock the hay barns at The Exceller Fund foster farms. Each semi of hay costs $7,500 - that includes transport and shipping costs. The hay is brought in from Nebraska to Oklahoma - TEF purchases only premium forage (almost all leaf, no stems or "chewy" stuff in there) so that every Racing Warrior gets the nutrition they need.

A Fundraiser of High-End and Costume Jewelry, Collectibles, Handbags, and More to Support South Jersey Horse Rescue

South Jersey Horse Rescue (SJHR) is a 501(c)(3) equine rescue whose mission is to provide loving sanctuary to abandoned, neglected, abused, and slaughter-bound horses. SJHR is run wholly by volunteers. They take in horses from emergency situations when the owners can no longer care for them due to catastrophic life changes, and they also collaborate with the SPCA and Animal Control officers in New Jersey and neighboring states when horses are found abandoned or abused. In addition, they rescue horses from certain death at slaughterhouses by purchasing those destined for slaughter from local auctions. Equines that have been physically or mentally abused, who have suffered injuries and/or illness, are given the appropriate treatment to restore them to health. If a horse can be rehabilitated, SJHR provides the training they need so they can be adopted to permanent homes, under a no-sale, no-auction contract. Horses that are permanently disabled or blind are given permanent sanctuary.

A Fundraiser to Support The Exceller Fund's Rescue of Thoroughbred "Racing Warriors"

Recently, Thoroughbreds are welcomed to The Exceller Fund regardless of their adoption potential and many remain in sanctuary for their lifetime. "Racing Warriors"...horses that have spent years on the track...have become a major focus for The Exceller Fund because they often have limited adoption opportunities due to age and athletic “wear and tear.”

THE EXCELLER FUND FARM STANDS
Hoof, Hoof Away (Winter), Distant Kid, Salt on the Rim (Margarita), and Fast Approaching (Cooper) know full well the difference The Exceller Fund has made in their lives. But there are expenses, so they set up farm stands to raise money. You can purchase one of these items or you can send in a tax-deductible donation (for as little as $5 and every donation is tax-deductible!) - or you can do both!

Special Horses runs this fundraiser for The Exceller Fund and the funds raised go directly to them You are also welcome to donate directly to the rescue or purchase an item to send to them.

The Exceller Fund acquires Thoroughbred horses that might otherwise be at risk for neglect or slaughter and works to provide a future beyond the finish line once they have completed their racing careers. In addition to transitioning potential adoptable horses into second careers, sanctuary is provided for those horses in need of retirement. The Exceller Fund also works to facilitate the placement of Thoroughbreds with other equine organizations nationwide to save as many Thoroughbreds as possible.

The Exceller Fund's mission of "Providing a Future Beyond the Finish Line" goes well beyond the immediate rescue of a horse. For us, saving a life is a LIFETIME commitment. With good care, horses can live into their late twenties, or longer. The Exceller Fund continues to care for these extraordinary horses long after the initial emotional response has diminished.

South Jersey Horse Rescue Farm Stands Fundraiser

South Jersey Horse Rescue in Egg Harbor City, NJ, discovered that the protected land they rent for the rescue was being sold out from under them because the owner failed to pay the mortgage - even though SJHR faithfully paid their rent. They were supposed to be offered first right of refusal, and were not. Several people are helping them try and purchase the property outright. Special Horses held this fundraiser to help with ongoing costs since efforts were understandably focused on buying the farm.

A Farm Stand Fundraiser for the Horses at South Jersey Horse Rescue

WHEN: May 25th - June 8th, 2024

It's been a rough year so far for South Jersey Horse Rescue! Although they were guaranteed first right of refusal, they found out that the rescue was being sold out from under them, and they have been raising funds to purchase the farm outright. But daily life at the rescue still means that every equine has special needs. Jasper, who has been at the rescue for over a decade, needed unexpected tracheal surgery to save his life. Yuki, the mascot mini, has been battling laminitis. And the rescue brought in two new horses, Verbena ("Beanie") and Jesse, who were both in desperate situations.

SOUTH JERSEY HORSE RESCUE FARM STANDS

Yuki, Jasper, Beanie, and Jesse wanted to help. They asked the SJHR volunteers to help them catalogue items that had been donated to the rescue, and they decided to set up farm stands to raise money. You can purchase one of these items, or you can send in a tax-deductible donation (for as little as $5, and every donation is tax-deductible!) - or you can do both!

Special Horses runs this fundraiser for SJHR and the funds raised go directly to them You are also welcome to donate directly to the rescue or purchase an item to send to them.

The mission of South Jersey Horse Rescue is to provide a loving sanctuary to abandoned, neglected, abused, and slaughter-bound horses. They evaluate and rehabilitate when needed and then re-home the horses they rescue. They do have some permanent residents but strive to find loving, forever homes for as many animals as possible. They are 100% volunteer-run and operate solely on donations.

The Exceller Fund's Farm Stand Set Up by Five Horses — Vinny, Perry, Salt on the Rim, Bassman Dave, and Distant Kid — to Raise Funds for Transporting their Friends, Vinny and Perry, to Tulsa

Recently, two more Exceller Fund retirees - Vinny Goodtimes (Vinny) and Perilous Times (Perry) joined the therapy herd at the Tulsa Boys’ Home where Exceller Fund horses help provide services to teen boys. Transportation for the two boys was just under $4,000.00. Both Vinny and Perry came to The Exceller Fund (TEF) with the intention of rehabbing and rehoming, but both ended up with elusive soundness issues. As a result, they have remained with The Exceller Fund and are now considered permanent retirees.

The Exceller Fund horses are one-for-all-and-all-for-one! So, five horses got together - Vinny, Perry, Salt on the Rim, Bassman Dave, and Distant Kid - and went through everything in the tack room to set up farm stands to sell their wares and help cover the cost of transporting Vinny and Perry to Tulsa.

The Exceller Fund is accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and has received funding from Thoroughbred Charities of America.

WHEN: Saturday, October 22nd at 10 AM CST through Saturday, October 29th at 10 PM CST

Fall into the fun of our online auctions and help several wonderful equine rescue groups as well! The auction will run from Saturday, October 22nd at 10 AM through Saturday, October 29th at 10 PM CST. There will be upwards of 50 items, ranging from original artwork to books, vintage collectibles, and jewelry. We will once again offer the Eclectic Equine Mystery Box for adults and the highly coveted “Ted’s Mom’s Fudge.” There are many bargains to be had, there’s something for everyone, and all proceeds support equines in need!

Thanks to our wonderful donors and supporters, this fundraiser raised $1,385 to help the Exceller Fund purchase hay, dewormer, and fly masks. It also helped with Handsome Jolly Jim's dental surgery to take care of his EORTH and for hauling costs to bring two new Exceller "kids" home. A collection of high end and costume jewelry benefiting South Jersey Horse Rescue (SJHR), a 501(c)(3) equine rescue, whose mission is to provide loving sanctuary to abandoned, neglected, abused, and slaughter-bound horses.

The SJHR is run wholly by volunteers. They take in horses from emergency situations when the owners can no longer care for them due to catastrophic life changes, and they also collaborate with the SPCA and Animal Control officers in New Jersey and neighboring states when horses are found abandoned or abused. In addition, they rescue horses from certain death at slaughterhouses by purchasing those destined for slaughter from local auctions. Equines that have been physically or mentally abused, who have suffered injuries and/or illness, are given the appropriate treatment to restore them to health. If a horse can be rehabilitated, SJHR provides the training they need so they can be adopted to permanent homes, under a no-sale, no-auction contract. Horses that are permanently disabled or blind are given permanent sanctuary.

Thank you for your support on Give STL Day! With your generosity, my #AreYouHungryToHelp Campaign raised $418 for Special Horses!

Give STL Day raises money and awareness for St. Louis Missouri area nonprofits during a 24-hour online giving challenge in May. The 9th annual Give STL Day took place on May 5, 2022.

I was adopted on May 11, 2020 from Secretariat Center, a Thoroughbred rehoming facility in Lexington, Kentucky, and I became the new Equine Advocate for Special Horses. That is why I feel very strongly about adoption of all equines needing new homes and a safe landing. Thank you for supporting me as the Equine Advocate of Special Horses!

Next year, on May 5th, May 19th and June 6th, we will celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Secretariat’s record-breaking Triple Crown wins, and we will celebrate the fact that these records still stand and may never be broken.

This auction celebrates Secretariat and Trusted Company (Secretariat – Star Snoop)—Secretariat's daughter, who retired to Bright Futures Farm—and many of his other amazing descendants. The majority of the items in this auction commemorate Secretariat and his lasting legacy.

I'm Niles (Beyond the Nile, Sire Pioneer of the Nile, Dam Beyond Price, born March 25, 2014). I'm the Equine Advocate for Special Horses. I was adopted on May 11, 2020 from Maker's Mark Secretariat Center, a Thoroughbred rehoming facility in Lexington, Kentucky. That is why I feel very strongly about adoption of all equines needing new homes and a safe landing.

Special Horses helps equine rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming facilities across the United States. We run online fundraisers, we help find grant funding, and we also create promotional materials. In nonprofit lingo, that's called "Development." Special Horses serves as a volunteer Development Staff for rescues that need our help.

2022 RACING MEMORABILIA AUCTION

Saturday, January 22nd at 10:00 am CST through Saturday, January 29th at 10:00 pm CST

Since 2000, their mission has been to save horses from abuse, abandonment, and slaughter. Once a horse is rescued, they provide medical care, rehabilitation and schooling and then adopt many of them into loving, forever homes. Their rescue also provides a permanent sanctuary to elderly and disabled horses that have been callously discarded because they are “too old,” “too sick,” or unwanted. They provide care and professional training to Thoroughbred ex-racehorses ensuring a solid foundation prior to placement into approved homes, placement assistance for retired broodmares and stallions at risk of auction/slaughter, permanent sanctuary for those Thoroughbreds that are either disabled or require extensive care in their senior years, and educational services to the community.

This auction raised $2,300 to support the equines in sanctuary at Bright Futures Farm!
