Special Horses Emergency Fund
A One-Time Gift to Be Used Toward Initial Costs for Unforeseen and Immediate Needs
for Equine Rescue Organizations in Good Standing
A one-time $100.00 gift will be made by The Special Horses Emergency Fund to any US-based equine rescue 501(c)(3) organization in good standing with the IRS and their state. Funds will be used to help defray urgent and unexpected costs for the organization. If the organization does not maintain its own facility, the funds are to be designated for the appropriate foster. Funds may NOT be used to purchase an equine directly from a kill buyer. An organization is eligible only once per calendar year. The goal is to provide immediate funds within 24 hours of the request, with minimal application and follow-up paperwork. When funds are exhausted for the fiscal year, no further gifts will be able to be provided. **Please note that as a small organization, to be effective, the focus of Special Horses is on equine welfare organizations whose annual budget is $100,000 or less.
Eligibility:
(1) The organization must have an annual budget of $100,000 or less.
(2) The organization must submit the completed application form, and include a copy of its determination letter and most recent 990 with the request.
(3) The organization must have been operating as a recognized 501(c)(3) for a minimum of one year (by date on the determination letter).
(4) The organization cannot receive the funds for two years following a consecutive gift of two years.
(5) The organization must appropriately describe the nature of the emergency. Ongoing costs will not be approved.
